Australian Tax Manual Suggested Solutions â€Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Australian Tax Manual Suggested Solutions? Answer: Inttroducation Under the current rules, all right-of-use assets are classified same as other non-financial assets and are detailed in the Balance Sheet under Property, Plant and Equipment. The lease liabilities are also treated as other financial liabilities. This allows the lessee to charge depreciation of a right-of-use asset as a deductible expense along with the interest paid on the lease liability. Moreover, as stipulated under IAS 7, the lessee bifurcates the payment and shows it as Principal and Interest Payment in the annual statement of cash flows, assert Ault, Arnold Gest, (2010). Although the lessee should treat a lease asset as a right-to-use asset, the system has not been effective in checking this and lessee entities are measuring all lease assets and liabilities on the present value basis, similar to Property, Plant and Equipment. The measurement does not take into consideration the optional lease periods, nor does it explain the options of extending or terminating the lease. In nearly all such cases, the initial value of the lease asset equals the value of lease liability shown in Balance Sheet, as per Wilmot, (2012). New IFRS Operating Lease RulesTop of Form The new IFRS rules suggest a fundamental shift in recognizing lease assets and liabilities through implementation of IFRS 16, which state that a lessee, who has leasing assets, should show such assets and liabilities under a separate head in the Balance Sheet. Changes on the Companys Balance Sheet IFRS 16 will eliminate the current classification of operating leases or finance leases for the lessee. Instead, the lessee will treat all leases as Finance Leases after applying IAS 17. Leases shall be capitalised and shall be shown, either separately as Lease Assets or with Property, Plant and Equipment, details Hanks, (2007). IFRS 16 and Companys Income Statement The lessee shall no longer classify its leases either as operating or finance leases. IFRS 16, which replaces IAS 17 from 1 January 2019, will have the following two provisions: Existing Finance Leases: These shall continue to be listed as Finance Leases. Existing Operating Leases: These shall have the option to opt for a full or limited restatement as per the requirements of IFRS 16. Lessee using IFRS 16 will not be required to recognise those assets and liabilities which are (a) short-term leases of 12months or less and (b) leases of low-value assets, such as a personal computer. Effect on Marvin Co. Ltd. The case study of Marvin Co. Ltd. is for the year ended 31 December 2016. Since the transition from the current system to implementing IFRS 16 shall come into force from 1 January 2019, the management is not obliged to use the new guidelines for finalising this Balance Sheet. An analysis of the situation for the current Balance Sheet of Marvin Co. Ltd. has been provided in Appendix A at the end of this paper. IAS 37: Provisions Contingent Liabilities Currently used Standard IAS 37 has set the criteria for recognising and measuring: Provisions Provisionrefers to liabilities which are of uncertain timing or amount. Use ofuncertain hereis of importance because in cases where time and amount become certain, then the payment is not considered as a provision but is referred to either as payable or accrual. Contingent Liabilities Acontingent liabilityis either a possible obligationwhich arises from a past event and needs to be confirmed by a future event or is a present obligation, arising from a past event, but either: the outflow of certain economic benefits for satisfying this obligation isnot probableor the amount of the obligation cannot be reliably measured, says Marsden, (2010). Overview With the introduction of IFRS 15 Revenue from Contracts with Customers, most of the Retail and Consumer Product entities may have to change certain aspects of their accounting principles for revenue, as described by Nethercott, Devos Richardson, (2010). This new revenue recognition standard, which is being implemented jointly by the International Accounting Standards Board (the IASB) and the Financial Accounting Standards Board (the FASB) is proposing to supersede all previous revenue recognition guidelines under IFRS. The standard, which shall come into effect for the annual reporting periods starting on or after 1 January 2017 is also allowing an early adoption. IFRS 15 shall be dealing with all revenue which arises from contracts with customers and shall affect all those entities which enter into contracts for providing goods or services to their customers, says Renton, (2012) IFRS 15 shall be used for all transactions which are common in the retail and consumer products sector, including those controlled by licences and franchise arrangements and which deal with sale of goods which come with right-to-return. Options granted to customers include Material Returns or Consideration Payment and these are some of the areas which may be covered under the new rule. It is in the interest of the entities dealing in consumer goods, which have substantial amounts tied to Warranties should start their preliminary assessment of the affects as early as possible, so that the management and the accounts teams can prepare towards implementation of IFRS 15,explain Deutsch et al, (2011). Effect on Marvin Co. Ltd. Although the impact, both financial and administrative, will vary from entity to entity, it is in the best interest of Marvin to start an evaluation of the requirements needed for implementing IFRS 15. Although the case study of Marvin Co. Ltd. is for the year ended 31 December 2016 and IFRS 15 is to come into force from 1 January 2017, the boards are allowing an early implementation. An analysis of the situation for the current Balance Sheet of Marvin Co. Ltd. has been provided in Appendix A at the end of this paper. Revaluation of Fixed Assets Arevaluationof the fixedassetsis such an action which needs to be carried out accurately, so as to give in detail the true value of the capital assets owned by a business. This needs to be distinguished from the planned depreciation process in which the recorded decline in the value of anassetis calculated on the basis of its age, according to Smith Koken, (2011). Revaluation Reserve on the Balance Sheet Revaluation reserves are actuallyRevaluation Surplus Reserves and these arise when value of a capital asset becomes greater than that value at which it was brought forward from the previousbalance sheet and it increases the shareholder funds. This gain, derived from therevaluationis known as Revaluation Surplus Reserve. In case therevaluedasset is no longer in use in the business, the remainingrevaluation surplusis eventually credited to the Retained Earnings Account in the Balance sheet of the entity. Revaluation Surplus as Income In case the revaluation of the asset produces a decrease in the carried forward amount of the capital asset, then the decrease is reflected through the profit or loss of the entity. However, in case of a credit balance of the revaluation surplus, decrease the comprehensive income in order to offset the credit balance, explain Reimer, Urban Schmid (ed.), (2011). Fair Value of Assets The InternationalAccountingStandards Board (IASB) definesfair value of an assetas "an amount at which an asset could be exchanged between knowledgeable and willing parties in an arms-length transaction". IAS 16:Property, Plant and Equipmentis used for outlining accounting treatment to be given to a variety of property, plant and equipment which are most commonly used in a business. The in-use Property, Plant and Equipment is determined initially at its cost value and is subsequently determined by using either the cost or the revaluation model. This is then depreciated in such a manner that the amount of depreciation is allocated on an equal and systematic basis over the total useful life of the asset. IAS 16 was re-issued with effect from December 2003 and has since been in use for the annual periods beginning on or after 1 January 2005, as detailed by Reimer, Urban Schmid (ed.), (2011). The unit of measure, used for recognition of a capital asset has not been defined under IAS 16. Hence, what constitutes as an item under the head of Property, Plant and Equipment in a Balance Sheet is not defined in IAS 16.9, however, each part of an item of Property, Plant and Equipment, having a cost and which is significant in relation to the total cost of that item, needs to be depreciated separately, as explained under IAS 16.43. IAS 16 itself recognises that certain parts of an item, shown under the Property, Plant and Equipment, can be subjected to replacement at regular intervals. Thus, the carrying amount of the item shown under Property, Plant and Equipment, also includes the cost of replacing such a part of the item. The carrying amount of such parts, which have been replaced, is derecognised as per the de-recognition provisions given under IAS 16.67-72, says Wilmot, (2012). Effect on Marvin Co. Ltd. Although the impact, both financial and administrative, will vary from entity to entity, it is in the best interest of Marvin to start an evaluation of the requirements needed for implementing IFRS 16. An analysis of the situation for the current Balance Sheet of Marvin Co. Ltd. has been provided in Appendix A at the end of this paper. Compensation Payments Unsecured Creditors The first tier of unsecuredcreditorsare those who are entitled to receive money from the company, but their claims are notsecuredor guaranteed. This group of creditorsincludes: bank lenders, employees, the government (taxes), suppliers and investors who have unsecured bonds, asper Ault, Arnold Gest, (2010). In some cases, the authorities allow the best interest test under which the debtor is required topayall thecreditors in full. In this context, entities use Chapter 11for paying their debtors and fulfil the best interest test bypaying creditorswith only a fraction of the outstanding debt, explain Ault, Arnold Gest, (2010). Under this standard, entities are required to recognise an allowance of either a 12-month or a lifetime Expected Credit Losses (ECLs) and this depends on the condition if there is a significant increase in credit risk since the initial recognition. However, for assessing if there is a significant increase in the credit risk, new data and processes will be required. While adopting the ECLs, entities will require to make significant changes in their current system and process. The ECL impairment requirements are to be adopted from 1 January 2018, although early application is permitted, details Renton, (2012). Effect on Marvin Co. Ltd. Although the impact, both financial and administrative, will vary from entity to entity, it is in the best interest of Marvin to start an evaluation of the requirements needed for implementing IFRS 9. An analysis of the situation for the current Balance Sheet of Marvin Co. Ltd. has been provided in Appendix A at the end of this paper. References Ault, H. J., Arnold, B. J. and Gest, G. 2010. U.S Constitution Ratification Debates Essays - James Madison

U.S Constitution Ratification Debates On September 28, 1787, after three days of bitter debate, the Confederation Congress sent the Constitution to the states with neither an endorsement nor a condemnation. This action, a compromise engineered by Federalist members, disposed of the argument that the convention had exceeded its mandate; in the tacit opinion of Congress, the Constitution was validly before the people. The state legislatures' decisions to hold ratifying conventions confirmed the Constitution's legitimacy. The ratification controversy pitted supporters of the Constitution, who claimed the name Federalists, against a loosely organized group known as Antifederalists. The Antifederalists denounced the Constitution as a radically centralizing document that would destroy American liberty and betray the principles of the Revolution. The Federalists urged that the nation's problems were directly linked to the frail, inadequate Confederation and that nothing short of the Constitution would enable the American people to preserve their liberty and independence, the fruits of the Revolution. The Federalists - led by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, John Jay, John Marshall, James Wilson, John Dickinson, and Roger Sherman - had several advantages. In a time of national political crisis, they offered a clear prescription for the nation's ills; they were well organized and well financed; and they were used to thinking in national terms and to working with politicians from other states. They also had the support of the only two truly national political figures, George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. The Antifederalists - led by Patrick Henry, George Mason, Richard Henry Lee, James Monroe, John Hancock, Samuel Adams, Elbridge Gerry, George Clinton, Willie Jones, and Melancton Smith - counted among their advantages the support of most state Ratification debates politicians and the American people's distrust of strong central government. Their most potent argument against the Constitution was that it lacked a bill of rights. The lively newspaper and pamphlet war over the Constitution was a key element of the ratification controversy. Federalists and Antifederalists published hundreds of essays praising or denouncing the document. They often signed these essays with pseudonyms drawn from classical sources such as Plutarch's Lives or from the seventeenth-century English struggles against the tyranny of the Stuart kings. Notable Antifederalist pamphlets included the Letters of Brutus, attributed to Robert Yates; Luther Martin's Genuine Information; Mercy Otis Warren's Observations on the New Constitution ... by a Colombian Patriot; and the Letters from the Federal Farmer to the Republican, whose authorship is still disputed. Every state but Rhode Island elected a ratifying convention in 1787-1788, and only North Carolina's adjourned (August 2, 1788, by a vote of 185-84) without voting on the Constitution. (Rhode Island submitted the Constitution to its town meetings; on March 24, 1788, in a vote boycotted by most Federalists, the voters rejected it, 2,708-237.) The first five ratifications took place in quick succession: Delaware, December 7, 1787 (unanimous); Pennsylvania, December 12, 1787 (46-23); New Jersey, December 18, 1787 (unanimous); Georgia, January 2, 1788 (unanimous); and Connecticut, January 9, 1788 (128-40). In Massachusetts, however, the Constitution ran into serious, organized opposition. Only after two leading Antifederalists, Adams and Hancock negotiated a far-reaching compromise did the convention vote for ratification on February 6, 1788 (187-168). Antifederalists had demanded that the Constitution be amended before they would Ratification debates consider it or that amendments be a condition of ratification; Federalists had retorted that it had to be accepted or rejected as it was. Under the Massachusetts compromise, the delegates recommended amendments to be considered by the new Congress, should the Constitution go into effect. The Massachusetts compromise determined the fate of the Constitution, as it permitted delegates with doubts to vote for it in the hope that it would be amended. All subsequent state conventions but Maryland's recommended amendments as part of their decisions to ratify: Maryland, April 28, 1788 (63-11); South Carolina, May 23, 1788 (149-73); New Hampshire, June 21, 1788 (57-47); Virginia, June 25, 1788 (89-79); and New York, July 26, 1788 (30-27). By that date, eleven states had ratified, including all four critical states. The lists of recommended amendments and the Federalists' promise to work for amendments (particularly a bill of rights), set in motion the process by which the Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution in 1789-1791. In turn, the

Malcolm X overcame many tough obstacles in his life to become one of Americas most influential black leader of his time. Malcolm X, or Malcolm Little as he was known in his childhood years, had a very traumatic childhood. Encarta states that since his father was a Baptist at a black church the Ku Klux Klan harassed his family often. This would have been very scary for a child of Malcolms age at the time. This is probably one of the reasons why he had a grudge against whites for the better part of his early years. After Malcolms family broke up he lived with many different foster homes until living with his sister in Boston (Schooling 2). As a kid it would be hard traveling all over the country living with different parents every few months. It takes a really emotionally strong person to put up with this type of change so often. His childhood was pretty rough and one of the ways he delt with it was to resort to Malcolm X got involved with all types of illegal activity with some really dangerous people. He was narcotics, gambling, and pimping. He picked up the name Detroit Red when he was involved with illegal activity in Detroit (Schooling 2). He had nowhere else to go or do but be involved with illegal businesses. He formed his own house robbing gang, and he was caught and sentenced to ten years in prison (Arnold and Gutierrez 15). Often considered an investment, slave owners could even intentionally impregnate their female slaves to place a sort of dividend. Slave owners considered the slave status something acquired from the mother only (Luminary_Aurora 2013). As a result, selling their children was not considered immoral or cruel. The Trial Film Analysis Essay Example for Free

The Trial Film Analysis Essay Brief Biographical Data of Orson Welles George Orson Welles or popularly known as simply Orson Welles, was a great American director, actor, writer, film, television, stage and radio producer. He also won in the prestigious Academy Awards. Welles became famous through his radio broadcast’s The War of the Worlds. It called a large number of avid listeners to panic. His works such as Macbeth and the contemporary figurative adaptation of Julius Caesar became legends. In 1941, Welles directed, co-wrote, starred and produced the critically acclaimed Citizen Kane. The film, according to polls of many film critics, was the greatest film ever made in film history. However, despite the unquestionable talents and several awards won, the rest of his career was usually hindered by incompetent studio interference, lack of funding and other unfortunate happenings. However, despite these difficulties, his film Othello won the Grand Prix du Festival International du Film at the Cannes Film Festival in 1952. In addition, his Touch of Evil awarded top prize at the Brussels World fair. Anyhow, Welles considered his film Chimes at Midnight and The Trial to be his best works ever. The Trial The Trial is a film that is even more visually extravagant than Orson Welles’ previous films. He used several themes, symbols and filmic devices that had become his trademarks. Depth of field photography, low-angle shooting, elaborate frame composition, visibility of constructed ceilings in the frame, attention to sound editing, expressionistic lighting, gigantic statues, houses in ruins are just some on the themes and filming techniques that Welles employed. The movie opened with animated pin-screen illustration of the parable of the law of Alexander and Claire Parker. Welles dubbed the voice who also played as K.’s advocate. He also dubbed all the authority figures’ voices. The parable is about a man who seeks admission to the Law but rather denied by the guard and thus waited until he can enter. With the film opening with the parable, it positioned the audience in an opportunity position from which to judge the character’s actions since they are certainly refracted through and thus rendered meaningful illustrations of the parable. Kafka’s tale absurdity is somehow interceded by the visual explanation given in advance. The film also raised but did not explore too much the most radical implication of its premise, in which sin, guilt and responsibility are not forced on any man. Demonstrated by the opening parable, the admittance to the law is not closed rather it is man who prevents himself from entering because of the notion of sin, guilt and responsibility that conceived of closing the door. Use of Principles of Design The film opened with a parable and in this opening, Welles executed the used of the designs, such as the unity, repetition and balance very well. The simple illustration of the doors created unity that somehow gave a sense of harmony and unity that pulls the whole picture or story together. The principle of direction and emphasis was also used effectively because we can immediately see the focus of a certain scene that Welles wanted us to see first. I can say that what twined the different episodes is Welles’ vision of the different settings as interconnected through a series of secret dark passages, entrances, staircases and exits that disintegrate the distinction between the private and public spaces. Welles explained in his 1965 interview that his â€Å"original design was to have the number of realistic elements gradually diminish and the number of realistic elements gradually disappear until what remains open is the spaces and as though everything has dissolved.† If compared to the 1993 adaptation of The Trial directed by David Hugh Jones and starred by Kyle MacLachlan, in my opinion, was beautiful and a subtle exploration of Kafka’s masterpiece nuances but still, an ordinary adaptation of the old one. Nevertheless, when it comes to the principles of design, of course, Jones’ adaptation will top the score. Colors, of course add spice and life to the design. The principles of design applied were definitely new and more appealing than the old version of Welles. However, Welles’ The Trial, has its own character and seemed to stand the time and have an eternal presence in each scene. I can also say that it is indeed easier to do an independent film when art and designs are at stakes and better results when you are the one with full control. Despite the lack of funds because of the low commercial value, a film will be outstanding when it comes to the employment of designs, arts, and every element useful for a successful film. Welles’ baroques set design and intelligent use of the principles of design also enhanced the impression that the different settings served as a â€Å"symbolic, nightmarish manifestations of K.’s inner turmoil† and dissipate the absurdity of Kafkaesque, in which straddled the line between the illogical and logical, the unreal and real. I can say that the film, then, is more of an allegory than a novel. Therefore, I can say that Welles was indeed successful in using the principles of design, however limited his budgets and resources were. Comparing Heroines in Anna Karenina and War and Peace Essay -- Literary

Women of the nineteenth century represented the image of the real woman. Their beauty, charm, and rich spiritual world were the inspiration of the poetical muse in all times. Many great writers and poets reflected the images of women in their works. The image of Anna Karenina, the main character of the novel, according to Tolstoy represents both a woman, who lost herself. She stepped away from her sacred duties of being a mother and a wife, but she does not have another choice. Tolstoy tries to justify the behavior of his heroine, but at the same time her tragical destiny appears to be unavoidable. Some very poetic motives of â€Å"War and Peace† develop in the character of Anna Karenina. In particular reflects the image of Natasha Rostova. Comparing "War and peace" with "Anna Karenina," Tolstoy has noticed that in the first novel he loved thought of society and in the second the thought of a family. The world of good and beauty in "Anna Karenina" intertwines with the world of evil much more closely than in "War and peace." Anna appears in the novel as a woman both searching for and giving love. In her quest for happiness many evil forces stand in her way. There are times when it might seem that happiness is possible for Anna. However, evil forces take over in the end and eventually Anna is lead to her tragic end. Anna's destiny is full of deep dramatic nature, and its elements are present throughout the novel. Tolstoy shows Anna as an equally loving mother and wife. Yet soon she meets Vronsky, and another element is added to her character. Anna’s romantic love and the love towards her child are the two great feelings that start out and remain forever separate for her. With Vronsky she presents herself as a lover, and with Karenin ... ...the society and decides to move away, to be and meet different people. Russian literature has always differed in its depth of the ideological maintenance, in many literary works writes mainly try to resolve questions of the meaning of life and how it humanely relate to people with its truth of the image. Russian writers try to show the best images of women that can be related to real women in life. None of the other world literature we can see such fine and pure women as we can see in Russian literature. Russian writers show true loving heart and unique beauty in the women. Only in Russian literature writers addresses so much attention to the image of private world and difficult experiences of women’s soul. Since the twelve’s century, Russian literature shows the image of the Russian heroic women who has generous heart, ardent soul and is ready for great feats.

Concepts of Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care Essay

Within this assignment, I have been addressed as a manager of a residential care home and I have the responsibility to provide a set of materials (leaflets, booklets, PowerPoint slides, posters) that can be used for information and training purposes) for my training staff. I have chosen to do this by writing a detailed leaflet in the style of an assignment so information can be thorough and clear. Rights Within the category of health and social care, the rights that we’re entitled to are significantly important. From time to time, or even regularly individuals will have to use sectors that relate to health and social care such as going to the doctors, hospital or a dentist. These public health services are mandatory for individuals and the public to use as individuals with long term health conditions or disabilities rely on the care they provide. Among public health services there are also social care services which have a responsibility to provide support for individuals with mental health problems, supporting the elderly and also the disabled within their homes. Other services include receiving appropriate care in day centres, residential and nursing homes and giving children who don’t live with their parents the care they’re entitled to. From this, it is concluded that whenever an individual is provided to have to use the health care service, experience medical treatment or social care – they have the right not to be discriminated against in terms of gender, race, gender identity, religion, disability of sexual orientation. Not only are these rights mandatory, individuals are also fully supported and protected by the written rights under the European Convention on Human Rights which have relevance within health and social care as their rights include: The right to life, the right not to be subjected to torture or to inhumane degrading treatment or punishment, the right to liberty and security of person and also the right to respect for private and family life. Choice Across the UK, it is becoming more common that an individual is obtaining more control from being able to choose the care and treatment they are receiving. The full aim from this change of choice is to be able to entitle an individual to become fully aware of the treatment and support that is available to them and advice on which would be best to choose. An example of this could being able to choose the hospital and individual receives their care in or if they require care at home they should be given a cash budget to be able to suit their needs and money limits. Overall, choice is imposed within health and social care as it’s to ensure that individuals have access to the best and right support, having access to a range of health and social care services locally and nationally, being equal partners with their doctor or carer in their decisions about their health and social care, and also being entitled to what their choices are and to make this clear within all health and soci al care circumstances. Equality During 2010 the equality act was introduced, mandatory for protecting individual’s rights and promoting the significance and importance of equality of opportunity for every single individual. Whether these opportunities would be minor or major in value, the equality act would play a significant role in allowing these opportunities to commence. Examples of opportunities may include having the right to attend a public event, or having the right to use public services. Furthermore, equality is an important role which also links back to the role of discrimination as people can be discriminated against due to their age, race, disability, and gender and so on, the equality act of 2010 stops this from occurring within health and social care settings and it signifies that each individual should all be treated equally. Diversity Diversity is a more complex word for ‘difference.’ However, diversity is about acknowledging the differences between individuals themselves, and also group differences. Individual differences include factors such as differing within race, age, gender, social status, disability, weight and so on. A person within a health and social care setting as a worker may experience misuse of diversity due to a difference they may have to another individual. For example, if a nurse refuses to treat a patient who may be suffering from a common but life threatening issue such as a heart attack, but is also a disabled individual, this current nurse would be misusing the legislation of diversity awareness, and would also most likely be on the way to becoming unemployed. In terms of acts that are significant to the roles of diversity happening in health and social care settings, the sex discrimination act of 1975 is a prime example of how men and women are treated equally even though thei r genders differ.
